Carla was involved in a terrible car accident last Wednesday 3-25-09 . This is my first post one week after the accident. she suffered head trauma, broken collar bone, several cracked ribs, cracked pelvis and tail bone. She has been in the Grady Memorial trauma ICU for a week. she is getting excellent care, but is still a very sick little girl. They had her on a ventilator for the past week. Yesterday, they did a tracheodomy on her and moved the vent tube to the trach. It is much more comfortable for her. In the process of several procedures, or the broken ribs, a lung collapsed and they inserted a chest tube. I just returned from the hospital, Georgia is still there, and they are to ween her off some of the medicines and the ventilator. she opened her eyes and recognized Georgia and myself. She is in a lot of pain from the various breaks and the chest tube, so they increased her dosage temporarely. Although she is still in very serious condition we think her waking and recognizing us is a big step. It look like she will remain in the ICU for maybe another week followed by an extended hospital stay and a few months of Physical therapy.
Georgia, Dusty and I cannot express our gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, meals, and concern from our friends and co-workers. We are truly blessed to have such good friends.
I will be updating this blog on a daily basis if I can.
Buddy, Georgia and Dusty.
